Tannerswood invite Watford MP over for tea

Residents of Tannerswood welcomed local MP, Richard Harrington, to their home to thank him for his support this year.

On Friday 7th June, Richard Harrington MP was invited to visit Tannerswood, a supported housing facility which was under threat of closure, earlier this year. As a result of Mr Harrington's interventions on behalf of his constituents, the notice of closure was withdrawn. Residents wanted to thank Mr Harrington over a cup of tea!

Mr Harrington was contacted by concerned residents, as well as their family and friends, in January. He was told that the home faced immediate closure due to fire and safety issues. Later that month, Mr Harrington met with David McCullough, the Chief Executive of The Abbeyfield Society to agree a way forward.

Following Mr Harrington's meeting, it was agreed that the Abbeyfield Society would take over operational management of the property on an interim basis.

Since then, the Abbeyfield Society has commissioned a new survey by TAS building contractors, and also organised for Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service to inspect the building.

Mr Harrington said:

" I'd like to thank Elizabeth and Mike for inviting me to tea on Friday afternoon. I always enjoy spending time in Abbots Langley.

I'm so pleased that the notice of closure has been withdrawn, so that residents will not have to move, and can stay close to their family and friends. I've been told that Tannerswood is even advertising vacant rooms now, which is great news."
