On Thursday 9th November, Richard Harrington MP officially opened the brand new STEM department at Watford Grammar School for Boys.
The state-of-the-art facility includes science labs and an engineering room, as well as maths and computer classrooms. It also features a conference room with practical working space. Watford Boys Grammar will be opening this facility to the local community and allowing other schools to benefit from what it has to offer.
On top of funding from the Department for Education, more than 150 parents donated to help make the centre a reality, as well as the Friends of the School and Old Fullerians Association.
"Investing in our children’s future is really important. Today had the pleasure of officially opening the brand new STEM department at Watford Grammar School for Boys, after securing funding from the Department for Education.
The £3 million facility specifically for Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (SETM) will serve the 1,500 pupils well, with several state of the art classrooms and a new conference room for practical working space. Watford Boys Grammar will also be inviting other local schools to use this fantastic new building.
I think it’s really important that we reach out to students and excite them about studying STEM subjects, as there are so many career prospects. Having access to a purpose built facilities like this will hopefully encourage more students to become interested in careers in technology."
